Metaphysical Music (part 1)

From the depths and heights of the Himalayan mountains come a music unlike any other that transcends all genres in the form of the Raga or Eastern Indian music. Across the borders into a big landscape there is the music of the Orient, Chinese music that depends a lot of the Pentatonic scale.
It may not be known to all, but the intervals that are played for any kind of genre and span the varieties of instruments have different and sometimes subtle effects on how wee react and feel about them. So, in scientific terms, it must alter our brain chemistry to an extent either while we are hearing it or even after. The scale that is played, or the arpeggio effect us like a chemical and thus trigger our feelings or reaction to music. Everyone will respond differently to a Major 7th arpeggio than to a Major 6th interval in an arpeggio.
The fascinating thing about Indian music and others in Asia are how long they have lasted. We who are enveloped in Western music have quite a lot of an archive to listen to yet when we hear that Indian raga or that piece of Chinese or Thai or Japanese music are transported to another dimension that has existed and exists out of our normal palate and really our consciousness. It is sometimes amazing that in our world, that the music of all the countries seems to put the pieces together like a well knit blanket but also eludes to the perfect circle or sphere which is our Earth.
It is amazing what a song and well crafted one can do. One can say that 50’s or 60’s Rock can be metaphysical and indeed it can be. I bet it has occurred at least one time with someone that they have felt extremely anxious or maybe on the verge of some kind of terrible episode and a song they heard in their car or home had saved them from the brink. If it was a Rock song then that must be deemed metaphysical.
A great song and take us places. Places that are high. Or places that get us in our center…Songs that we don’t particularly like annoy us and some disturb us even if they seem light and unassuming. Those can be likened to the negative metaphysical songs.
Because of technology of the last 40 years we are privy to music from around the whole world…What Classical lacks, Rock and Roll has. What Rock and Roll lacks, Indian Music has. The list goes on with the attempt at modernism with the Synthesizer based songs and experiments. We all have arguments over electric or acoustic sound, yet it is all electric with the exception of live performances.
One of the lesser know forms of music, if it is considered music all the time are the experiments in tone and overall sound of Music Therapy techniques and the recordings of them. In this age it is only twenty years old or so that compact discs and tapes are recorded of Music Therapy. Some use scales like songs and some are songs and lately there has been music meant for heightened consciousness and therapeutic intentions. Studies have shown that ones particular taste in music is already therapeutic to one. Yet there has been a new form of song and sound where experiments are done on the waves of the sources of the instruments sometimes along with songs. I feel and hope that this type of music is not overlooked and is a valuable source of the music experience. Though one term can describe Metaphysical Music and that is anything takes higher or in the middle to your center or plainly makes you feel better. Though we are fortunate to have the array of genres that we have.
